Sixth-grader Kendra Wecker is used to competing against boys in athletic competitions, and doesn't care much about being the only girl in the national 1994 NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass & Kick finals this weekend.

The 12-year-old will make history Sunday as the first girl to compete in the final round of the PP&K in San Diego, during the Chargers-Miami Dolphins game. She and her family were set to leave Marysville in northern Kansas Friday for their California weekend."She's excited," Kendra's mother, Pam Wecker, said Thursday.

But football really isn't Kendra's favorite sport. Basketball is. "She did this for the fun of it and this is what happened," Wecker said.

Kendra also is used to competing nationally. Last summer, her mother said, she set a national softball-throwing record at the Hershey Youth Track Meet in Hershey, Pa.
