Jeffrey DeVere Staples, age 37, passed away October 18, 1995 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jeff had been on the organ transplant list waiting for a liver transplant since January 1995. A donor liver was found for him in July. When it was discovered during surgery that he had cancer, they were unable to perform the transplant surgery.Jeff was born February 14, 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada to H. DeVere and Meridean Melville Staples. Growing up in Las Vegas, he was active in sports, scouting, and ballroom dancing. His senior year of high school he moved to St. George, Utah with his family. He graduated from Dixie High School. Jeff played baseball for Dixie High and went on to play in the State tournament and All Star games. While attending Dixie College, Jeff entered the management training program for Skaggs/Osco Drugstores. He worked as a manager for Osco in Utah and Kansas. At the time of his death he was manager for Payless Drugstores in Park City, Utah. Both Payless and Osco Companies and their employees have stood by Jeff until the end.

Jeff's proudest accomplishment was to be a father to his children, Sara, Nicole, and Jeffrey. Jeff was looking forward to being a grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his children and his family. He loved his times fishing and snowmobiling in Yellowstone and Island Park, visiting St. George, relaxing in Pine Valley, and being with his many friends. Jeff loved the mountains, sports and good music. He loved life and will be remembered for his courage and fighting spirit. He was a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include: daughters, Sara Staples, Nicole Staples, both Sandy, Utah; son, Jeffrey Staples, St. George, Utah; parents, H. DeVere and Meridean Melville Staples, St. George, Utah; brothers and sisters, Dr. Larry and Ann (Milne) Staples, St. George, Utah; Dr. Bill and Jamie (Staples) Larsen, McCammon, Idaho; Kevin and Teresa (Stucki) Staples, Mesa, Arizona; Bob and Joyce (Staples) Arend, Kanaraville, Utah; 18 nieces and nephews; a granddaughter, Kayla Coy, was born October 15, 1995 to Sara Staples and Joey Withers; also a special friend, Nicole Scott and her children, Justin, Jason and Megan.

Funeral services Saturday, October 21, 1995 at 9:30 a.m. in the Sandy Hillcrest LDS Chapel 915 E. Peach Blossom Dr.,(9100 South) Sandy, Utah. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State St. Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 8-9 a.m. Interment will be in the Kanosh, Utah Cemetery on Saturday at2:30 p.m.
