Darrel L. Hicken died on October 2, 1995 of cancer in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on November 30, 1921 to Rulon and Lila Hicken. Moved to Salt Lake City with his family when he was 13 years old. Attended West High and was on the rifle team with the cadets there. Graduated from University of Utah as a Chemical Engineer in 1942. Married Mildred Cook the day after he graduated from school. He was hired by Allied Chemical Company and worked for them for 38 years. They lived in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, California, New Jersey, Israel, Wyoming, and Oregon. With short stays in Canada, Louisiana, Mexico and Kentucky where he headed start-ups on Chemical Plants for those governments through Allied.His hobby was raising animals, boxer dogs, horses, black angus cattle and sheep. He was active in the LDS Church, ordained a High Priest by Hugh B. Brown when they organized the Walnut Creek Stake in California and was on the High Council there. When they moved to New Jersey he served on the High Council and as counselor to President Mortimer for six years when the New Jersey Stake was organized. He was on the High Council in Wyoming and at various times served as Scout master, Elders Quorum president and teacher. He was branch president at Scio, Oregon several years. While in Israel he was in charge of the first organized branch of the church from 1969 to 1971.

Surviving relatives are his wife, Mildred; sons, Lorin; Donald (Debbie); daughters, Janie (Joseph) Adair, Sally (Jeffery) Duke; 13 grandchildren; brother, Dr. Lloyd (Alice) Hicken.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 6, 1995 in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
