At one time in Europe, so many kings and rulers were named Frederick that an adjective was often added after the name to sort them out.
They ranged from Frederick the Great, King of Prussia (1712-1786), and Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II (1194-1250), called Super Mundi or "The Amazement of the World," to Frederick the Mild (1411-1464) of Saxony.Others included Germany's Frederick the Fair (1286-1330), Frederick the Victorious (1425-1476), Frederick the Pious (1515-1576) and Frederick the Wise (1463-1525).
Norway, Denmark, Brandenburg, Bohemia and Wurtemberg also had crowned heads named Frederick.
