If you don't subscribe to cable, your television viewing choices between 7 and 8 this evening are rather limited.
Let's see. You've got a couple of insipid sitcoms on Ch. 30. And you've got Utah's Growth Summit on every other channel.That's right. KUTV-Ch. 2, KTVX-Ch. 4, KSL-Ch. 5, KUED-Ch. 7, KBYU-Ch. 11, KSTU-Ch. 13 and KJZZ-Ch. 14 are all carrying the summit. So viewers will miss regular programming on those channels.
But you won't be missing much.
Either the programs originally scheduled for that hour will be aired at another time, or they're so weak that they won't be missed.
Ch. 2 had the best offerings - the 30th anniversary airing of "A Charlie Brown Christmas," followed by a new Muppet special, "Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree." The two shows will air Saturday at 4 and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
Ch. 4 is wiping out new episodes of "Ellen" and "Drew Carey." But they'll be repeated at a later date.
Ch. 5 is sinking an episode of "SeaQuest 2032," but then - who cares? It's a remarkably mediocre sci-fi series that's already been canceled.
Ch. 7 will air the next episode of "The New Explorers" next week. Ch. 11 will start "Great Performances" at 8 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.
Ch. 13 is also pushing back "The Billboard Music Awards" to 8-10 p.m. (They'll be tape-delayed an extra hour. Big deal.) But it does mean that Fox's newscast will have to go head-to-head with those on Channels 2, 4 and 5 at 10 p.m.
Ch. 14 normally airs "Baywatch Nights" - a spinoff that's even worse than "Baywatch," if you can believe that - at 7 p.m. But if you must get another dose of David Hasselhoff, tune in at 9 p.m.
And if you insist on not watching the summit, Ch. 30 will air the WB network's "Sister, Sister" at 7 p.m. and "The Parent 'Hood" at 7:30 p.m. But you've got to be pretty desperate to try those shows.
Even a bunch of politicians are more interesting.
