A nuclear-powered U.S. submarine collided with a freighter in Hong Kong waters. No one was injured and no radioactive material leaked, the U.S. Consulate said Thursday.

The USS Drum was undamaged in the collision with the Panamanian-registered Sei Bright a week ago, and the freighter was slightly damaged at the bow, said Hong Kong Marine Department spokesman Patrick Wong. The submarine was not submerged at the time, he said.

The consulate said the submarine was leaving Hong Kong after dropping off a crew member for compassionate leave when the collision occurred last Thursday.
