In the recently completed U.N.-sponsored "Patron Cities Conference," which culminated the U.N. International Year of the Family, perhaps a handful of the presenters sought to foster principles most Utahns and Americans could recognize as the traditional God-given roles of families. The overall thrust of the conference, however, fostered a philosophy of government "wrap-around" services that, when analyzed and understood, must be recognized as projecting the pervasive and invasive power of government into every aspect of the lives of individuals and families.
The proposed programs, such as "Success by Six," spoken of by Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini, would have the agencies of government reaching down through the parents to take control of the lives of children from the moment of conception, arrogating to the state the power of all-knowing "superparent" and undermining the God-ordained role of the family. For years, the United Nations has sought to redefine the family in a more politically correct manner, looking to embrace even same-sex relationships with the same sanctity as true marriage. And all thinking Americans must scratch their heads in wonderment as they contemplate the incongruity of the U.N. International Year of the Family "celebration" in Salt Lake City in March 1995 and the UN's Population Control Conference in Cairo, Egypt, which was held in September 1994.
In the final analysis, both conferences signaled dire consequences for families and individuals.
The UN's family and government agenda is irreconcilable with God's plan for families, and the Constitution as defined by the Founding Fathers. This state, the nation, and, indeed, the world must beware of destructive programs packaged in high-sounding rhetoric that, in the final analysis, will destroy all that we hold dear. The U.N.'s nefarious programs for families and government must be exposed and rejected.
