Cities, counties and school districts take reports on graffiti incidents, which they use to track vandalism and perpertrators. But beyond that, their responses vary. Here's who to call and what kind of response to expect:

BLUFFDALE: Call City Hall at 254-2200.

BOUNTIFUL: Call the Police Department at 298-6000. Bountiful, North Salt Lake, Farmington, Woods Cross and Centerville jointly own a high pressure sprayer for removing graffiti on public property.

The city removes graffiti on public property within 24 hours, but it's up to owners to take care of private property.

CENTERVILLE: Call the Sheriff's Department at 292-8441. The city cleans graffiti only from public property; the goal is to remove it within 24 hours.

DAVIS COUNTY: Call the Police Department at 451-4150. The county cleans graffiti only on public property.

DRAPER: Call City Hall at 576-6500. The city cleans graffiti only on public property.

FARMINGTON: Call the Police Department at 451-5453.

MIDVALE: Call City Hall at 561-1418. The city cleans graffiti only on public property. For tough jobs, it contracts with a private company to remove markings.

The city is considering an ordinance that would require graffiti to be removed within a certain period. It also may begin using liability waivers that allow the city to clean private property.

MURRAY: Call the Gang Hotline at 264-CLUE, Parks Department at 264-2614, or Murray police at 264-2673. The city removes graffiti from public and private property at no charge. It tries to remove markings within 24 hours of receiving a report.

NORTH SALT LAKE CITY: Call the Police Department at 298-3880. The city removes graffiti from both public and, for a $90-per-hour fee, from private property within 24 hours. The city adopted an ordinance last summer that requires graffiti to be removed within 10 days after it's reported.

RIVERTON: Call City Hall at 254-0704. The city tries to remove graffiti within 24 hours. The city will clean both public and private property.

SALT LAKE CITY: Call the Off The Wall Program at 799-3443. The city cleans graffiti from public and, if owners request and sign a waiver, from private property. The city also will supply private property owners with paint and other removal materials.

SALT LAKE COUNTY: Call the Graffiti Hotline at 363-4723. The county will clean public property. The county will donate paint or solvent to private property owners. A county ordinance requires businesses to remove graffiti within 10 days.

SANDY: Call the Parks Department at 561-6712. The city removes graffiti from public and private property. Its goal is to wipe the markings out within 48 hours of receiving a report. (See box for more on Sandy's investment in fighting graffiti.)

SOUTH JORDAN: Call City Hall at 254-3742. The city cleans public property only. The city may adopt an ordinance requiring property owners to remove graffiti within 24 hours or pay the city to do it.

SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY: Call Code Enforcement at City Hall at 483-6010. Public Works cleans graffiti on public and, in some cases, private property.

WEST JORDAN: Call City Hall at 569-5270. The city cleans graffiti from public and, if requested, from private property. Its policy is to remove graffiti within 48 hours.

WEST VALLEY CITY: Call the Graffiti Hotline at 963-3467. West Valley removes graffiti on public property and notifies private property owners of the problem. It may supply property owners with paint. A city law requires graffiti to be cleaned within 10 days.

WOODS CROSS: Call the Police Department at 292-4422. The city cleans graffiti on public and, in some cases, on private property.
