President Clinton's popularity has jumped to its highest level in more than a year, the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll shows.

Fifty-six percent of those interviewed said they approved of the job Clinton is doing, up from 46 percent in early April, the Post said in Tuesday's editions.Respondents appeared to be particularly impressed with the way Clinton was handling the Oklahoma City bombing, with more than 80 percent expressing approval, the paper said.

The poll found Americans evenly divided on the question of whom they trusted to better handle the country's biggest problems: 42 percent said Clinton and 42 percent said congressional Republicans. Last month, 49 percent chose congressional Republicans and 41 percent said Clinton.

The poll also showed support for Henry Foster, Clinton's nominee to be surgeon general - 45 percent favored his confirmation, 29 percent were opposed, and the rest had no opinion.
