Christiansen honored
LITTLETON, Colo. - BYU sophomore All-American Amy Christiansen, of Grantsville, has been named Western Athletic Conference female track co-athlete of the week for an NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 53 feet, 4 inches in the shot put at the BYU Collegiate Challenge Monday.
Christiansen's mark, a personal best and school record, erased the four-year-old BYU record of 51-41/2 set by Kartsi Leppaluoto in Los Angeles in May of 1991.
Tracksters to compete
BYU's men's and women's track teams will face some national champions and Olympic medalists at the Southern Cal Dual Meet Invitational in Los Angeles Saturday.
In addition to collegiate athletes, more than 20 potential 1996 Olympic team members will compete, including gold medalists Quincy Watts, Jackie Joyner Kersee and Gail Devers, and silver medalist Danny Harris.
In the men's dual competition, BYU will come up against USC's Hungarian Olympian Balazs Kiss, the two-time NCAA champion in the hammer, who broke the NCAA hammer record with a throw of 257-6 three weeks ago.

Hirschi is athlete of week
BOISE - Weber State hammer tosser John Hirschi has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men's outdoor track and field athlete of the week.
Hirschi, a senior from West Valley City,set a Weber record with a toss of 193 feet, 3 inches.
Scrimmage set
OGDEN - Weber State concludes its 1995 Spring football practices with its annual Purple/White intrasquad game. This year's contest is scheduled for Saturday, beginning at noon in Wildcat Stadium. Admission is free.
The games features a scoring system which enables the defense to score by stopping any offensive drive (2 points), stopping a fourth down try (4 points), gaining a turnover (3 points) or scoring touchdown off a turnover (6 points + 3 points for the turnover =9 points).
Wildcat head football coach, Dave Arslanian, is looking to replace 10 starters lost from last year's team which posted a 5-6-0 record overall, and a 2-5 mark in Big Sky Conference play. Despite the losing record, the Wildcats averaged 12,853 fans per game.

Bromley leaves SUU
Southern Utah University head basketball coach Bill Evans has announced that assistant coach Kevin Bromley has left SUU to accept a similar position at Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo. Bromley has joined the staff of new Mustang head coach Jeff Schneider.
