Lawrence Nels Nelson, age 76, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 24, 1995, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, of pneumonia and congestive heart failure.

He was born August 3, 1918, to Lawrence Nels and Ellen Blanche Hatch Nelson in Woods Cross, Utah. After graduating from Davis High School, Larry moved to Los Angeles, Calif. and lived with his sister Geneva. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Denmark and at the outbreak of World War II, he finished his mission in the Southern States. In December of 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.Larry married Ruth M. Torgerson on January 26, 1945, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He attended the University of Utah for two years.

He spent 30 years in military and government service, mostly in San Diego, Calif. During his years in San Diego, he had the opportunity to serve as a bishop and as a member of the high council. After their retirement, Larry and Ruth served an LDS mission in Cleveland, Ohio. He had recently been serving as a missionary in the Member Locating Department.

His interests include meeting people and maintaining friendships. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and a good joke.

Larry is survived by his wife Ruth of Bountiful; two sons, Blain of Reno, Nevada, and Roger of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Shari Price of Sugar City, Idaho, and Pat Mackay of Logan; a sister, Blanche Ruflin of Bountiful; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geneva Barber.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 28, 1995, at 11:30 a.m. in the Bountiful 11th Ward Chapel, 115 East Wicker Lane (2100 So. and Orchard Drive (4th East)). A viewing will be held Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Funeral Home, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Wednesday, 10:15-11:15 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
