Four juveniles who attempted an escape from Decker Lake Youth Facility were charged Wednesday with three felonies each in the adult system.
Travis Hards, 17, Billy Rohwedder, 16, Josh Corwell, 16, and David Pantelakis, 17, are being held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail. Third Circuit Judge Patrick Casey has scheduled a bail hearing for Friday morning.Salt Lake District Attorney Neil Gunnarson asked the judge at the juveniles' arraignment to set bail at $250,000 each, a figure that apparently shocked the four youths.
The boys become the first teens to be transferred directly from the juvenile justice system into the adult system under the state's serious youth offender law.
Each faces one count each of assault by a prisoner, attempted escape and damaging a jail, all third-degree felonies. If convicted, each charge carries a sentence of zero to five years in prison.
