The following auto safety recalls were announced in May by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA recently released the list to the media in an attempt to remind consumers to have the problems fixed.

Manufacturers are required to mail a recall notice to all purchasers, owners and dealers when a safety defect or noncompliance with federal safety standards is found. Owners should wait until they receive notification from the manufacturer before contacting their dealers to schedule repair work. Not all vehicles of a particular make and model may be subject to the recall.- Honda Accord, 1988-1991; Honda Civic, 1986-1991; Honda Prelude, 1986-1991; Acura Integra, 1986-1991; Acura Legend, 1986-1990. Number of vehicles: 3,700,000. Recall no: 95V103001. System: Seat belt buckles.

Two-door, four-door and five-door passenger cars equipped with safety belts made by the Takata Corp. The front safety belt buckle release buttons can break.

The red plastic release buttons are marked "Press." If a button breaks, pieces can fall into the buckle assembly causing the buckle to operate improperly.

What should you do? Promptly check the condition and operation of both front safety belt buckles and carefully inspect the red release button for any breaks or cracks. Make sure both buckles are operating properly by inserting each latch plate into its buckle, tugging on the belt to make sure the latch is securely locked, and then pressing the release button. The latch plate should pop out of the buckle when the button is pressed. If either release button shows a sign of breaking or cracking or if either buckle fails to operate properly, contact your authorized Honda or Acura dealer to schedule an appointed to have the buckle replaced or repaired free of charge. The manufacturer is developing a remedy designed to prevent failure of the buttons that are not currently broken.
