A four-day cultural tour of Philadelphia is being offered this fall in an effort to raise funds for a new wing at the Springville Museum of Art.

Museum officials are hoping a group of at least 20 people will be interested in touring the museums and experiencing the artistic diversity of the city of brotherly love and its surrounding areas Oct. 5-8.Sharon Gray, associate director at the museum, said $100 of the $895 per person cost will be donated to the new Centennial Wing of the Springville museum.

Scheduled stops on the trip include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, a day tour to the Brandywine River Museum, Longwood Gardens and a tour of Amish Country, near Lancaster, Pa.

Accommodations will be in the historic district of Philadelphia near the Liberty Bell Pavilion and Congress Hall.

"It turns out to be a really fun way of fund raising because everyone has a good time," Gray said. "And it doesn't cost any more than other comparable tours."

Cost of the event includes air-fare from Salt Lake City, round-trip transfers, lodging and bus tours to Amish Country and museums. A deposit of $100 is due Aug. 18.

Gray, who is also curator of education for the museum, said the Centennial Wing will include a library, a children's gallery, gift store and auditorium and storage space.

"Things have been going great with the addition," she said. "We have at least a third of the money, a million dollars, and hope to get construction under way when we get two-thirds of the funding."

The new wing will join the south side of the museum, near the Springville Middle School, adding 15,000 square feet of space.
