President Rex E. Lee honored several of Brigham Young University's top faculty, staff and administrative personnel during the opening session of the annual University Conference Monday.

This year's Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer, the university's top faculty honor, is C. Wilfred Griggs, professor of ancient scripture. Griggs has received international acclaim for his research in Coptology and Egyptology and for his work as director of Egypt's Fayum excavation since 1982. His outstanding reputation with the Egyptian government resulted in BYU's successful mounting of the Ramses II exhibit in 1985-86, and his direction of DNA studies on mummies in an ancient Christian cemetery in Egypt led to his invitation to direct similar studies on Egypt's royal mummies.Griggs will deliver his lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center. The public is welcome.
