Jim Svejda, host of KUSC-FM's "The Record Shelf," which airs twice weekly on KBYU-FM, will speak about his career as a critic and broadcaster Friday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall of Brigham Young University's Harris Fine Arts Center.

The evening will also include a performance by the Deseret String Quartet, composed of BYU faculty members.Tickets, at $5 ($3 BYU staff/

students), are available at the Music Ticket Office (378-4322).

Svejda will also be a guest in the KBYU-FM studios Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. That evening he will also judge the Metropolitan Opera Utah District Auditions at 7:30 p.m. in the Temple Square Assembly Hall.

Svejda holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Syracuse University. His broadcasting career began at Boston's WCRB-FM and New York's WNON-FM. He has been at KUSC-FM in Los Angeles since 1978.
