Myrtle Cundick Bateman Beckstead, 89, our caring, loving and special mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away October 5, 1996.
Born July 26, 1907, in West Jordan, Utah, to Samuel and Ida Charlotte Crane Cundick. Married Ross Merwood Bateman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple September 6, 1927. He preceded her in death September 19, 1967. Married L. Earl Beckstead in the Salt Lake Temple on January 15, 1977. Earl died March 1, 1996.Myrtle was an active member of the LDS Church, serving faithfully in the Relief Society, Primary and as a visiting teacher. She served as an officer in the Gardner Camp of the DUP and was active in MIA Drama Clubs. A member of the Pioneerians Literary Club, she also was active in the South Jordan Senior Citizens with her husband, Earl. She was a long time West Jordan resident.
Survivors: children, Bonnie Russell (Tom), Salt Lake City; Deon Bateman (Mae), Riverton; Kent Bateman (Dorothy), North Carolina; Mrs. Kay Bateman (Donna), Bennion; Verlaine Fowlks (Ron), Murray; Merlin Bateman (Audrey), Bluffdale; Allen Bateman (Colleen), West Jordan; 29 grandchildren, 71 great, grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Jean Bateman (Glen); Ardith Newbold, (Bruce); Coleen Ashby (Henry), Ruth Ann Hooper (Richard); 20 step grandchildren, 47 step great-grandchildren, one step great-great-grandson; brothers and sisters, Harvey Cundick, Ray Cundick, Lucille Glover, Ned Cundick, Norma Diamond.
Preceded in death by son, Kay; son-in-law, Tom; one grandson, three great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services Thursday, October 19, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the South Jordan River 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 1500 West 10400 South. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
