Charles Wright's book, "Chickamauga" (Farrar, Straus & Giroux), has won the 1996 Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, an annual award of $10,000 for the most outstanding book of poetry published in the United States in the previous year.

Wright, a native of Pickwick Dam, Tenn., who has published 10 other books of poetry, is a professor of English at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
