Davis Applied Technology

With more than 100 golfers participating, the third annual fall scholarship golf tournament for the Davis Applied Technology Center raised $9,000, which will benefit 15 to 20 students during the next year.

Golf tournament funds are intended for use by students who can't qualify for other types of financial aid.

Women

Weber State University

WSU's Services for Women Students is offering a variety of presentations to women's groups to help develop organizational, educational and personal needs.

The free, 45-minute presentations include: "Planning for the Future," for women re-entering school; "How to Get What You Want," on networking and assertive communication; "Achieving a Balanced Life," on time and stress management, parenting, marriage, self-esteem and acceptance; "Busting Roles, Myths and Expectations," on looking beyond stereotypes; "Relaxation Training," teaches deep-breathing and muscle-relaxation techniques; "From Grief to Growth," on understanding the grief process; and "Body Image," to maximize physical strengths and minimize weaknesses.

The presentations are available to community and campus groups of 10 or more by contacting Services for Women Students at 626-6090.

Advancement

Westminster College

Carl A. Moeller has been appointed assistant vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster College.

Moeller will oversee all aspects of the development program at Westminster, including events, alumni, annual giving, research and database management. He will also assist the administration with major gifts.

Before joining Westminster, Moeller served as director of development and major gifts at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

China

University of Utah

Milton E. Wadsroth, distinguished professor emeritus of metallurgical engineering, has received an honorary doctorate from the Central South University of Technology in Changsha, China.

Wadsworth, former dean of the U. College of Mines and Earth Sciences and a faculty member for 48 years, pioneered the exchange programs between the U. and leading metallurgy and mining schools in China. The U. was one of the first schools in the United States to open ties with Chinese universities.

Fellowship

University of Utah

U. biologist John S. Parkinson Jr. has been elected to fellowship by the American Academy of Microbiology.

Parkinson is among 1,300 fellows from 27 countries recognized by the academy. Fellowships are awarded to microbiologists who have demonstrated outstanding scientific excellence and originality.
