Vern Adix, 83, a creative, generous, gentle man, died at Fay Case Care Center on Monday, March 25, 1996.

He was a master set designer, builder, puppeteer, author, teacher, and friend. The Children's Theatre program, especially all the kids, flourished under his direction. Professor Emeritus since retiring in 1982, his induction into the Pioneer State Theatre Hall of Fame in 1994, capped his remarkable career at the U of U. As an actor in many stage and film roles, he was a natural as Noah, Sitting Bull, and Santa. Always humorous and cheerful, his talents were as big as his heart.Born on May 3, 1912 in Boone, Iowa, he has a sister, Rosetta K. Hull still living in Boone. She encouraged and helped him get an education after their parents, A.W. and Katy Kumpf Adix died. When he'd earned degrees from Iowa and Minnesota, Vern was invited to join the Utah faculty by C. Lowell Lees in 1943.

In 1957, he married Shauna McLatchy and was a devoted homemaker, handyman, gardener, and family man who adored their children, David and Alison.

A private burial will be held at Valley View Memorial Park. Friends are welcome to call at the family home on Friday, March 29, from 4-7, for an informal remembrance of his good life. Funeral directors, Valley View Funeral Home.
