Col. David Tanzi, commander of the 419th Air Force Reserve Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base, will become a brigadier general on April 12.
Tanzi's promotion to general was approved last week during a Senate confirmation hearing, wing officials said.Because Tanzi already is sitting in a brigadier general's slot, he will not have to leave the 419th and could be at Hill for another five years. He already has spent 30 months with the 419th, including a combat tour in the Middle East enforcing the no-fly zone over northern Iraq.
Tanzi has served in the National Guard or Air Force Reserve since September 1968 and has more than 4,000 hours of flying time in jet fighters.
