A frame building believed to be the oldest LDS Relief Society hall in Utah has been placed on the Utah Historic Register.
The building is one of only eight Relief Society halls known to remain standing, according to the Utah Board of State History. It was probably the first, finished in 1882.The Richmond City Council this week approved an updated restoration plan for the building, known as the "pink house." The city bought the hall from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969 for storage.
The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers is spearheading the restoration work, which will include a new roof, landscaping and fresh paint to restore it to its original appearance.
It is expected to reopen as a community center in late August.
A decision on whether it will be listed in the National Register of Historic Places is expected in late May.
