FAVRE'S FINE: Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, under scrutiny following treatment for dependency to prescription painkillers, said he threw only one bad pass Saturday during an intrasquad scrimmage in Green Bay, Wisc.
"Same MVP; same MVP," was safety LeRoy Butler's diagnoses of Favre's performance before a crowd estimated at 40,000 to 50,000.Favre, who led the NFL with 4,413 yards and 38 touchdowns last year, completed a 46-day stay at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kan., on June 28. His arm showed little signs of the layoff Saturday.
"Talking to (team physician) Pat McKenzie . . . this is the best it's felt," said Favre, 9-for-13 for 173 yards and five touchdowns with one interception. "Usually at this point in camp it's tired."
RAMS SIGN KENNISON: The St. Louis Rams signed first-round pick Eddie Kennison, a receiver from Louisiana State, to a five-year contract Saturday.
While financial terms of the deal were not available, Kennison - the 18th pick - is expected to get about $5 million, including a signing bonus of $2 million.
DOLPHINS SIGN THOMAS: Lamar Thomas, a former University of Miami receiver waived by Tampa Bay after his arrest on a battery charge, signed with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
Thomas, 26, who had 25 receptions for 387 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Buccaneers, was arrested in Plantation, Fla., and charged with battery of his pregnant girlfriend during a July 4 party.
RAVES MOVE INTO NEW NEST: The Baltimore Ravens moved into Memorial Stadium on Saturday, practicing before almost 8,000 fans and returning the NFL to the field Johnny Unitas and the Colts had called home.
"It's a milestone for me and my family," said Ravens owner Art Modell, who moved the now-renamed Browns from Cleveland after last season. "We went through an awful lot to get here, and it was great to see the team finally take the field."
INJURIES SLOW JETS: A rash of injuries has forced New York Jets coach Rich Kotite to cut planned two-a-day sessions to single workouts.
Offensive tackles Jumbo Elliott and David Williams have yet to practice because of hamstring strains and backup quarterbacks Frank Reich and Glenn Foley are sidelined by calf strains.
KI-JANA QUIET IN SCRIMMAGE: Gunnard Twyner scored the only touchdown, a 27-yard pass from rookie Damon Huard, as the Cincinnati Bengals offense beat the defense 12-6 in a scrimmage Saturday.
Ki-Jana Carter, coming off a season-ending knee injury, saw limited action, rushing for 3 yards on two carries and catching one pass for 7 yards.
JONES INKS WITH N.Y.: Cedric Jones might have been the most welcome face in training camp for the New York Giants' defensive line.
For now, the first-round draft pick, who signed a a $12.2 million, six-year contract, is just a fresh body - exactly what the injury-plagued defensive line needs. Since camp opened a little more than a week ago, five defensive linemen have been hurt, with starting tackle Keith Hamilton, backup end Jamal Duff and tackle Todd Yeaman all still sidelined.
