Her story sounds like a headline from a supermarket tabloid: Space Aliens Cured Me of Cancer!

But Lynne Plaskett, now a member of the Volusia County Council, says that's exactly what happened to her 20 years ago.Plaskett, 46, told a national TV audience Wednesday that a small, hovering disk entered her bedroom in Long Beach, Calif., as she lay on her bed, crying because of a diagnosis that she had only three months to live because of T-cell lymphoma.

She said the tiny UFO levitated, scanned her body and dis-ap-peared.

Within four months, Plaskett said, her cancer was in remission.

"I knew it wasn't God, and it wasn't of this earth," Plaskett told reporters. "That's why I consider it alien."

Now, she's worried about how going public on "The Maury Povich Show" will affect her political career in New Smyrna Beach, about 10 miles from Daytona Beach. She is up for re-election for a second term.

Her opponent, Jim Ward, said he's glad she was cured of cancer.

"If it's an alien-encounter type thing, I'll let the voters decide whether it matters to them," Ward said.
