Virginia Hinckley Beckstrand, 84, died at home September 26, 1996, of cancer.

Virginia was born in Salt Lake City March 28, 1912 to Dr. Elmer Eugene and Helen Angie Callister Hinckley. Married Melvin H. Beckstrand November 27, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was an active member of the LDS Church and has served as teacher and in the presidency in all the auxiliary organizations.She was a master teacher and had a genuine love for the youth. Many lives have been touched by her example and her testimony of the gospel. She and her husband served a mission in Atlanta, Georgia, and in the Provo Temple. She was a member of the Hinckley Family organization, involved in the acquisition of Cove Fort. She had worked as a secretary in the Alpine School District for 17 years.

Survived by her husband, Melvin, three daughters and two sons: Carol (Merle) Allen, Mesa, Arizona; Harlo (Carol), Orem; Helen (Richard) Wells, Tacoma, Washington; Paul (Elaine), Kaysville; Judy Terry, Alpine; 32 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neil N. Hinckley and Dr. Mackinnon Hinckley. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene C. Hinckley, Scott Hinckley, Earl Hinckley; a sister, Alice H. Toomer; a grandson, Robert Beckstrand; and son-in-law, Michael B. Terry.

Funeral services will be Monday, 1 p.m. in the American Fork 6th Ward, 300 East 100 North. Friends may call at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Sunday 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, American Fork Cemetery.

Family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Edwin Hinckley Scholarship Fund at Brigham Young University.
