Jennifer Capriati's comeback is serious.
With her latest upset - she knocked off fourth-seeded Lindsay Davenport 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 today - Capriati grabbed a spot in the final of the Sydney International tennis tournament where she will meet the latest teen phenom, 16-year-old Martina Hingis. The second-seeded Hingis reached the women's title match with a 6-3, 6-2 rout of American Mary Joe Fernandez.
In the men's final, Britain's Tim Henman will face Spain's Carlos Moya.
The Capriati-Davenport match was a battle of Olympic gold medalists. Capriati won at the 1992 Barcelona games, while Davenport captured the gold in Atlanta last year.
Davenport held the early advantage, leading by a set and 3-1. Even so, she didn't feel comfortable.
"I was winning but I never felt I was playing that good," Davenport said. "She was making a lot of errors and I felt she was giving it to me. Then I let her back in a little bit and she got her game together very well."
Despite the disappointment of failing to reach her third straight Sydney final, Davenport was generous in praising her opponent.
"It's great that she's back and playing well," Davenport said. "Everyone knew how good she is and how talented she can be."
