President Clinton on Friday nominated Sheila F. Anthony, a former assistant attorney general and a sister of former deputy White House counsel Vincent Foster, to serve on the Federal Trade Commission.
Anthony served at the Justice Department as assistant attorney general for legislative affairs for two years, until 1995, when she left to spend time with her family.The University of Arkansas graduate was also a senior associate with the Washington law firm of Dow, Lohnes & Albertson, where she specialized in intellectual property law.
Her nomination to the FTC, where she would replace outgoing Commissioner Janet Steiger, must be confirmed by the Senate.
Foster, Anthony's brother and a former law partner of Hillary Rod-ham Clinton, was a White House lawyer until his July 1993 suicide.
The FTC is an independent agency that monitors consumer protection and enforces competition in the domestic economy.
