Bill Cosby's return to television gave him his 15th People's Choice Award for starring in "Cosby," which also picked up an award for favorite new television comedy series.
Cosby tied with Michael J. Fox of "Spin City" Sunday for favorite male in a new television series.Other repeat winners in the 23rd annual event included Oprah Winfrey, Tim Allen, Brooke Shields, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Mel Gibson, Sandra Bullock and the television shows, "ER" and "Seinfeld."
The films "Independence Day" and "The Nutty Professor" also received awards.
NBC garnered most of the awards in the television categories. The TV daytime show, "Days of Our Lives" was honored as favorite dramatic series, a new category this year.
Jean Stapleton and James Woods joined Carl Reiner in honoring his son, Rob Reiner for his 30 years of achievements as an actor, director, writer and producer. Reiner recently directed "The Ghosts of Mississippi" and early in his career gained notoriety as Archie Bunker's son-in-law on the television show, "All in the Family."
Actress Roma Downey and actor Don Johnson hosted the event at Barker Hanger at Santa Monica Airport attended by more than 1,000 guests and fans and telecast live on CBS-TV.
