The author who sparked a massive cultural phenomenon with the “Twilight” series recently got a shoutout on “Jeopardy!”
‘Twilight’ author Stephenie Meyer gets a ‘Jeopardy!’ shoutout
A recent “Jeopardy!” game tested the players’ knowledge of famous authors’ alma maters.
Any “Twilight” fan watching was likely able to answer the first clue in the category: “It was probably inevitable that Stephenie Meyer, from a Mormon family, would attend this univ. where she studied English.”
Nabil Rahman, a “Jeopardy!” contestant originally from Queens, New York, came up with the correct answer: BYU.

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the book’s release. The “Twilight” books and films have developed strong responses from both fans and critics, and the cultural phenomenon has endured: The town of Forks, Washington — the setting of “Twilight” — has seen a significant growth in tourism over the years, and there’s a new a new TV show in the works, as the Deseret News reported.
In addition to Meyer, fantasy author Brandon Sanderson also attended Brigham Young University — where he was roommates with “Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings for a time.
During a recent “Jeopardy!” taping, Jennings recalled how Sanderson worked as a night shift desk clerk at a hotel near their house — “which I guess leaves you lots of time to write 1,200-page novels with 78 characters in them,” he joked.
Other recent BYU references on ‘Jeopardy!’
BYU also got a “Jeopardy!” shoutout earlier this season, thanks to the following clue about a viral comedy sketch: “Key & Peele’s East/West Bowl featured Tyroil Smoochie-Wallace, Jackmerius Tacktheritrix and from this Provo college, Dan Smith.”
“Celebrity Jeopardy!” also referenced the school and its honor code in a clue last year, as the Deseret News reported. And in 2024, an entire category in the “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions was dedicated to celebrities with ties to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jennings, a BYU grad, has seen a number of clues over the years referencing the school and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“When I was a contestant on the show, I wagered $3,800 one time on a Daily Double where the response turned out to be ‘Who is Brigham Young?‘” he told the Deseret News in 2013. “I remember wishing I’d wagered a lot more.”
Adam Remsen ‘Jeopardy!’ winning streak continues
Adam Remsen, an attorney and theater producer from Memphis, Tennessee, ended up winning the “Jeopardy!” game with the Meyer clue.
To date, Remsen has won nine games and nearly $200,000. His ongoing winning streak comes on the heels of players like 31-game champion Jamie Ding, 10-game winner Tristan Williams and eight-game champ Chris D’Angelo.
