NUGGETS' WILLIAMS OUT: Eric Williams, the Denver Nuggets' leading scorer, is expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Utah on Friday night.
Williams, who signed a $26 million contract after being acquired from Boston, averaged 19.8 points in the first four games.

NHL SUSPENDS CAPS' SIMON: Chris Simon, an American Indian with the Washington Capitals, was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Sunday amid accusations he shouted a racial slur at a black Edmonton Oilers player.
Simon made the remark to Mike Grier at the end of a game Saturday night in Landover, Md., some players and two on-ice officials said. The NHL will set a date today for a hearing to determine the length of the suspension.
KONSTANTINOV OUT OF HOSPITAL: Detroit Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov was released from the hospital Sunday, nearly five months after a limousine crash that left him comatose.

JOHNSON'S SUCCESSOR: Barring a last-minute change, Ray Miller will succeed Davey Johnson as manager of the Baltimore Orioles, a team source said Sunday. Miller served as a pitching coach under Johnson, who ended an ongoing dispute with owner Peter Angelos by resigning Wednesday.

MIAMI 300: Joe Nemechek - racing on at the track where his brother had a fatal crash - led 127 of 200 laps Sunday to win the Jiffy Lube Miami 300 in Homestead, Fla. He won a battle of Chevrolets against NASCAR Busch Series champion Randy LaJoie by leading the final 59 laps. The margin of victory was .397 seconds.
