Lorin Farr Monument, located in the Municipal Gardens at 25th Street and Washington Boulevard in Ogden, will be rededicated at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Elder J. Kirk Moyes, an Area Authority Seventy in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will rededicate the monument, erected in memory of Ogden's founder and first mayor.The monument was recently restored in a joint project by Ogden city and the Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization Inc.
Lorin Farr was sent by Brigham Young in 1850 to lead colonization of Weber County. He served for 20 years as stake president and 22 years as mayor. The monument was originally dedicated by LDS Church President George Albert Smith, a grandson of Lorin Farr.
The ceremony will begin with the unveiling of the monument and a dedicatory prayer by Elder Moyes. The program will then move to the David Eccles Conference Center, 2415 Washington Blvd. Speakers will include David J. Farr, president of the family organization and a great-great-grandson of Lorin Farr; Ogden Mayor Glenn J. Mecham and Elder Moyes. The Weber State Singers, directed by Evelyn Harris, will perform. Light refreshments will be served.
