Our precious father, friend, mentor, teacher, Warren Bingham Wilson, passed away December 1, 1997.
Warren was born November 4, 1920, on the Utah State University agricultural experimental farm at North Farmington Utah, to Dr. Alma L. And Pearl B. Wilson. He married Donna Myrl Van Wagenen, of Provo, Utah, December 22, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The marriage was performed by David O. McKay.
Warren and Donna are the parents of seven children, 33 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. As a young man he grew up in Logan, Utah where he attended Utah State University. He graduated in 1943 with a BS in education, from 1943 to 1945 he served as a pilot in the U. S. Air force during World War II. He then went on to receive his masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1949. He taught in the art department at USU for five years before coming to BYU, where he taught for an additional 29 years. He was a fine artist as well as an educator. His paintings, prints, sculpture and pottery won many prizes at State exhibits and can be found in many collections and private homes.
In the community Warren was best know as a scout master, having served in that capacity for 30 years. He was awarded the Provo Peak award and the Silver Beaver award in scouting.
Warren was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as high councilman, Bishops councilor, and in the Young Mens stake presidency. After his retirement from BYU he served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. During 1985 he and Donna served an LDS mission to Nauvoo, Illinois.
Warrens accomplishments in art and education are countless and too extensive to mention. He taught his family how to work, and to love life. We will miss him but know that he is having a great reunion with those gone before him, especially Donna, who passed away 18 months ago.
