Kent George Allsop, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 1997.
Kent was born February 16, 1940 in Bingham, Utah to Warren "Sunny" and Agnes M. Allsop. He married his college sweetheart, Celia Kay Jenkins, June 8, 1961 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was active in the LDS Church, presently serving in the High Priest leadership.Kent attended Jordan High School where he was student body president. He later attended Utah State University, University of Southern California and the University of Utah, where he received his Ph.D.
Kent was active in the Physical Therapy profession, serving in leadership positions at local and national levels. He helped establish the University of Utah Physical Therapy School, where he served as the director and as an associate professor, teaching most of the state's physical therapists. Kent took pride in the growth of the PT profession in Utah and enjoyed his relationships with his fellow therapists.
His wife and best friend, Celia Kay, was the love of his life. He enjoyed camping with his family and reading to his grandchildren, who always laughed at all his jokes.
Throughout his life, Kent dedicated his time and talents to uplifting the spirits of those who were disabled. Aside from other professional accomplishments, Kent most cherished his work with the LDS Mutual for the Handicapped, Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. and the University of Utah Muscle Clinic. On his wall proudly hangs a plaque his P.T. students gave him, "Kent Allsop: Friend to the Handicapped."
He is survived by his wife, Celia Kay Allsop, and four sons, Michael Kent (Launa) Allsop, Riverton; Jason George (Kellee) Allsop, Springville; Brent J. (Heidi) Allsop, Bountiful; and John Warren Allsop (Oregon, Portland LDS mission). seven grandchildren; one brother, Richard W. (Marlene) Allsop, Oregon; and his father, Warren G. "Sunny" Allsop, Holladay. He was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes M. Allsop and stepmother, Mable Allsop.
Goodbye, dear friend. You fought the good fight. We will miss you.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Bountiful Utah East Stake Center, 650 East 2150 South, Bountiful. A viewing will be held at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friends may also attend a viewing Friday evening at Russon Brothers Mortuary, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah.
