Gov. Mike Leavitt has appointed Matthew B. Durrant as a new 3rd District Court judge. A judicial Senate committee is set to confirm the appointment on May 21.

Durrant, currently with the Salt Lake law firm Kimball, Parr, Waddoups, Brown & Gee, is expected to fill the vacancy of retiring district judge Edward A. Watson, who has adjudicated in West Valley City.The Senate committee will determine whether Durrant will work out of West Valley City or not.

A public hearing may be held prior to the confirmation and any comments or written statements should be sent to the committee's chairman, Sen. Craig L. Taylor, R-Davis, before 5 p.m. Friday, May 16.
