Anne Preven, the Harvard-educated diva with pop-rockers Ednaswap, says she came up with the strange moniker during a dream three years ago.
"I dreamed I was watching myself singing with this really horrible band called Ednaswap," Preven recalled. "All I remembered the next morning was the name and how awful they were. I'd never even imagined myself in a band before that."The quintet - Rusty Anderson (guitar), Scott Cutler (guitar), Paul Bushnell (bass), Carla Azar (drums) and Preven - recently released a sparkling new album, "Wacko Magneto" (Island), produced by Dave Jerden (Alice in Chains, Jane's Addiction).
Although several Ednaswap members live in Silver Lake, Calif. Preven scoffs at the idea that there's some kind of arty new music movement in the area.
"I've always thought that whole Silver Lake thing was invented by the guy that owns (the local club) Spaceland," the singer said.
