Marcus Christopher Funk, age 83, passed away June 26, 1997 at his home in Salt Lake City.

Born December 31, 1913 in Richmond, Utah to James W. and Lucy A. Merrill Funk, he was married for over 58 years to Ruth Hardy Funk. His life was devoted to his wife and family of four children, 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren to whom he gave constant love and security.Dr. Funk graduated from North Cache High in 1931, received his BA degree from the University of Utah in 1935 where he served as president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and later received his DDS degree from Northwestern Univesity in 1942 where he was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society.

He served as the dental officer aboard the USS Louisville in the Pacific during World War II and retired after 20 years in the naval reserve as a Lt. Commander. He practiced dentistry for 43 years in Salt Lake City, serving as president of the Salt Lake District Dental Society and later as president of the Utah State Dental Association in 1957-58.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mark served as Young Men's president, Teachers Quorum advisor, Aaronic Priesthood secretary and on the High Council of the Parleys' Stake. Most treasured by him were he 15 years of service as a guide on Temple Square.

He is survived by his wife; children: Mrs. Nancy Pulsipher, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Allyson Gurney, Salt Lake City; Judd Funk, Los Angeles; Mrs. Jennie Jo Emery, Providence; sister: Mrs. Edith Shepherd, Salt Lake City; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, June 28, 1997 at the Parley's Third Ward Chapel, 2615 E. Stringham Ave. Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So. on Friday, June 27th, from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday, 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Drive.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the caregivers at St. Joseph Villa and IHC Hospice for assisting their father through his transition with dignity and grace.
