Glen Johnson Detton died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, July 11, 1997 at LDS Hospital, after suffering from a sudden stroke. He was 76 years old.
Born April 28, 1921 in Arco, Idaho the son of Joseph and Hilva Detton. He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Wanda Curtis Bunker Detton and by two sisters, Dortha DeCoria and Jackie Beeman; three brothers, Virgil, Karl and Gene Detton. Glen was the father of seven children, Benny Glen, Glen Jr., Carron, Mark, Deena, Ann and Darren. He was also the father to stepchildren, Barbara, James, Bill, Kathy and Nancy. Together Glen and Wanda enjoyed 30 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, as well as many nephews, nieces and special loved ones.Glen was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served diligently in various leadership capacities. He was a full-time Temple ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He achieved many honors in athletics, especially wrestling where he held the title of World Champion Wrestler. He served in law enforcement for much of his career and Chief of Police in Cascade Locks, Oregon. Glen was active in community affairs but most importantly he was a faithful servant to the Lord. He magnified his callings and was a committed and dedicated man. He loved his wife dearly and cherished their companionship. He loved his children unconditionally. His grandchildren brought great joy to his life. He was proud of his family. He was an honest man who knew the value of hard work. He taught these principles to his children. He was a man of great physical strength both in mind and body and taught others of courage and strength. He was proud of his pioneer heritage and loved to sing and enjoyed music and dancing. He was always willing to give a helping hand and encouragement to others, and shared with those less fortunate. He was a loving father and husband and will be remembered in our hearts forever! He endured faithfully to the end. "Well done thou good and faithful servant".
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Reed, Dean, Dory, Clyde and Melvin Detton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer Stake Chapel, 1145 West 500 South where friends may call 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., and on Monday in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment, Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, Idaho.
