Three players from Purdue - guard Chad Austin, forward Brian Cardinal and center Brad Miller - were among the 12 players named Sunday to the U.S. team that will compete in next month's Men's 22 and Under World Championships.

Also named to the team was center Mike Doleac of Utah. The team, to be coached by Utah's Rick Majerus, will try to defend the gold medal the United States won in the inaugural competition in 1993.

The final roster was selected from an original group of 66 players invited by USA Basketball. The list was trimmed to 15 players who attended a training camp at Southern California College that began July 8.

"Being selected to this 12-man team is quite an accomplishment," Majerus said. "It's been certainly gratifying to see the effort they have all put forth and the unselfish play has been nothing less than exemplary."

In addition to Miller and Doleac, center Evan Eschmeyer of Northwestern was selected. The other forwards were Pat Garrity of Notre Dame, Sam Jacobson of Minnesota and Andrae Patterson of Indiana. The other guards were Corey Brewer of Oklahoma, Cory Carr of Texas Tech, Mike Jones of Texas Christian and Tyronn Lue of Nebraska.
