Glannin Alexius Cloward, 80, died Saturday, August 23, 1997 at Heritage Park Care Center in Roy, Utah of causes incident to Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born July 12, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Ralph Elijah and Verginia Staker Cloward. He married Ruby Dolores Alston in the Salt Lake Temple on October 26, 1944.Glannin spent his youth in Venice, Utah and Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High School, where he began his military service as an ROTC cadet. He attended the University of Utah where he was affiliated with Sigma Pi Fraternity. He graduated in 1939 and received a commission as Second Lieutenant in Field Artillery. He later attended Airplane Observer's School, Aerial Gunner's School and Pilot Training School. He served during World War II as a B-25 bomber pilot and completed 68 missions in the European Theater. He attended advanced military schooling and among other assignments, served as a staff officer with the Civil Air Patrol. He later taught at Brigham Young University as an Assistant Professor of Air Science and Director of Training from 1953-1957. His military career included two tours of duty in Europe and two in the Far East. He retired from active service after 24 years and then worked as a munitions manager at Hill AFB until his retirement from Civil Service in 1980.
He served in many position in the LDS Church, including MIA president, branch president, district president of the Luzon (Philippines) and Korean Serviceman's Districts and as bishop and high councilor. He was known for his many interests, including the development of his Lifetime Calendar; a food packaging business; and he helped to initiate the Boy Scout "On Target" mirror signaling project. He was also the owner and operator of a boat and trailer storage business for several years. He was active in Kiwanis Club for over 30 years and served as president of the Clearfield Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, three daughters and two sons, Marilyn (Walter) Rudolph, Orem, Utah; Connie Cloward, Brooklyn, New York; Sylvia (Donald) Suhaka, Damascus, Maryland; Robert (Kathleen) Cloward, Cedar City; John (Jacqueline) Cloward, Sacramento, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson, one brother, Dr. Ralph B. Cloward, Honolulu, Hawaii and one sister, Ruth C. Clinger, Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Cloward.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Clearfield 6, 8 and 10th Ward, 300 No. 200 West. Friends may call at the Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State, Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at the Chapel one hour prior to services. Interment: Ft. Douglas Cemetery.
