Cardinal rebukes the media for criticizing Mother Teresa

Cardinal John O'Connor angrily rebuked members of the news media who have criticized Mother Teresa since her death.

"I must confess my deep regret at what I consider the almost unbelievably tasteless manner in which some of the television and radio stations reported on the life and death of Mother Teresa," the Roman Catholic prelate said in his Sunday sermon at St. Patrick's Cathedral.Some have criticized Mother Teresa for preaching Catholicism's opposition to abortion instead of helping India cope with the problems of overpopulation, and for focusing her efforts on helping individual poor people instead of trying to change governments' policies on poverty.
