Matt Slocum, Sixpence None the Richer's guitarist/cellist, has appreciated all types of music.
"When I first got into the scene, I was 15," he said during a phone call from Los Angeles, Calif. "It was all guitar rock -- Van Halen, stuff like that."But as time went on, the songwriter got into more diverse sounds such as the Sundays and the Cocteau Twins.
"I've always liked the mellower tunes, and the more minimalist arrangements," he confided. "I also like the sound of a female lead singer."
Sixpence None the Richer will play the KENZ radio show at the Kingsbury Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 15. The music will begin at 7:30 p.m
In a few short years, Slocum found the perfect band for him with lead singer Leigh Nash and drummer Dale Baker.
"Leigh's voice was what I have been looking for," he said. "And I wanted to write songs that incorporate her voice."
And that chemistry has gotten the band some notice. The single "Kiss Me," has been on every pop station in the Salt Lake Valley and other outlets, such as M2, VH1 and MTV.
"This is a good year for us," Slocum said. "We've been looking forward for this for five years, and we want to continue to keep things fresh."
