Matchbox 20, the pop-rock band from Atlanta, Ga., will make a stop at Saltair Tuesday, March 3.

Opening the sold-out concert will be Cool for August. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.Matchbox 20 - featuring vocalist Rob Thomas, bassist Brian Yale, drummer Paul Doucette and guitarists Kyle Cook and Adam Gaynor - began as another band called Tabitha's Secret, which included Thomas, Yale and Douc-ette.

The three decided to form a new band. Doucette thought of the name Matchbox 20, which he originally wanted to name a clothing line. The name stuck with the band, which hooked up with producer Matt Serletic, who also worked with Collective Soul - another Atlanta-based band.

Matchbox 20's demo tapes caught the attention of Atlantic/-Lava Records, and in a few months, the band's debut album, "Yourself or Someone Like You," was released.

Thanks the the singles "Push" and "3 a.m." Matchbox 20 quickly became the flavor of the year in the latter part of 1997.
