Death: Thomas Lavoy Esplin

Thomas Lavoy Esplin, age 83, died Tuesday, February 3, 1998 at his home in St. George, Utah.

He was born October 15, 1914 in Orderville, Utah to Israel and Chastie Esplin. He married Phoebe Lytle on April 11, 1941 in the St. George Temple. She preceded him in death in 1989.He was a graduate of Dixie College and Brigham Young University, where he received a degree in Zoology. He was a well respected educator who served as Superintendent of Kane and Washington County Schools for over 35 years. As a member of the LDS Church he served the Lord in many capacities including Bishop, Stake President, Mission President (Canada Winnipeg), St. George Temple President and at the time of his death he was serving as Patriarch of the St. George East Stake.

He is survived by one son and four daughters: Joan (Lowell) Young of Wayne, PA; Thomas Lavoy (Kristie) Esplin of South Jordan, UT; Lucinda (Jack) Bowers of West Valley City, UT; Susan (Dave) Blazzard and Jane (Roger) Campbell of both of St. George, UT. 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: John Donald Esplin of St. George, UT and Vance S. Esplin of Orderville, UT.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the Tabernacle (18 South Main) in St. George, UT. Friends may call Friday evening from 7-9 at Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary (110 S. Bluff) in St. George, UT. Interment will be in the St. George Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George, UT-673-2454.
