Thomas Franklin Murdock, 62, our loving husband, father, brother and friend went back to live with his Heavenly Father and loved ones, February 28, 1998, after suffering complications from a stroke.
Born to Franklin Joseph Murdock and Claire Thomas Murdock, October 18, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tom married his sweetheart, Anita Louise Fortune, November 21, 1959 in Lynchburg, Va. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 21, 1961.Tom was a devoted husband and father and always put his family first. He also loved and served the Lord in many capacities as a faithful member of the LDS Church. Tom lived to see both sons serve honorable full-time missions and all his children married and sealed together in LDS Temples. Tom also enriched others with his beautiful artistic talents of drawing, painting and wood carving.
Tom graduated from East High School, then joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for eight years. Tom started as a freshman in 1962 and in two years, nine months received his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University in June 1965. He worked for Murdock Travel, Inc. from 1965-1992. Tom first worked as a travel agent and later was in charge of advertising for Murdock Travel while serving as the branch manager for the Provo, Utah office. He traveled throughout the world visiting the missions of the LDS Church to coordinate travel needs. He also earned the title of Certified Travel counselor from the Institute of Certified Travel Agents. Later, Tom worked for the LDS Church in its missionary department until his retirement in July 1997
Tom is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Clair (Cory) Saunders, Dirk (Shannon) Murdock, Greg (Annie) Murdock; two sisters, Joyce (Sid) Baskin, Karen (James) Blair; brother, Michael (Pauline) Murdock: seven grandchildren, Jamie, Jill, Carly, Jake, Caitlin, Derek and Joshua. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Wed. at 12 noon at the Welby 5th Ward, 8385 South 4800 West. Friends may call Tues. evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West, Riverton, and on Wed. from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment in the West Jordan Cemetery.
