Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend passed away in Cancun, Mexico while on vacation with her husband and family on March 7, 1998.
She was born November 17, 1929 in St. Paul Minnesota, to Arthur and Myrtle Goranson. Joyce attended public schools in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was employed by the St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company. She met and married Donald H. Panushka on January 14, 1950. After living in Boston, MA, Lawrence, KA, and Birmingham, MI, they settled in Salt Lake City, Utah August 15, 1953.Joyce was an early member of the League of Women Voters and long time board member of the Friends of the Salt Lake City Library, and taught children with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF).
Joyce actively participated for 32 years in the Tuesday literary study group, and a study group sponsored by the University of Utah and the Ford Foundation. She took a great interest in the world around her. She traveled extensively with Don throughout their marriage.
She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. Her two children were her greatest joy.
Joyce in preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Donald H. Panushka, Salt Lake City; her children, Professor Christine Panushka, Sierra Madre, CA; Dr. Cole (Teresa) Panushka, Ogden; Julie A. Panushka, San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Joseph Panushka, age 5; Katherine Panushka, age 3; her brother, Dean Goranson, Cinncinati, OH; other close relatives of St. Paul and Los Angeles.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 13, 1998 at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 E. 100 So., where friends may call Thursday, 6-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Funeral Directors Evans and Early Mortuary.
