K. Fred Skousen, dean of Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Management, has announced the appointment of Henry J. Eyring as director of the Marriott School's nationally ranked Master of Business Administration Program.

He will take over from Gary McKinnon, director of the program for the past six years. Eyring will assume his new responsibilities on May 1, according to Skousen. With Eyring coming from outside the university, the appointment signals a break from a long tradition of rotating faculty members into the MBA leadership role.

"We are very pleased to have a man of Henry's talent, intelligence and commitment accept this significant assignment at the Marriott School," Skousen said. "We are confident that his blend of academic and practical business experience will lift an already excellent MBA program to even greater heights."

The Marriott School's MBA program was again ranked among the top 50 graduate programs of business in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in its "America's Best Graduate Schools" published Feb. 23, 1998.

A graduate of the Marriott School's MBA program in 1989, Eyring has worked for Monitor Company, an international management consulting firm based in Cambridge, Mass., that employs more than 750 professionals in 15 offices around the world. He has been president of Monitor Institute, a subsidiary of the firm that consults in the public sector, and has also been a global account manager at Monitor.

Eyring serves as COO of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and as a trustee of Southern Utah University. He is a director of Skywest Airlines and Assist Cornerstone Technologies, a Salt Lake City-based software company.

In addition to his MBA, Eyring also holds a juris doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark School of Law and a bachelor of science degree in geology from BYU.

"I look forward to working with the outstanding students and faculty of the Marriott School," Eyring said. "These MBA graduates are so highly valued by employers around the world especially within international business environments. It's thrilling to contemplate how the professional and spiritual training they receive at the Marriott School prepares them to act as a mighty force for good in the world."

After six years of service as director of the MBA program, McKinnon will return to full-time teaching and research in marketing.

"I have greatly enjoyed the past six years spent with the MBA program," McKinnon said. "The quality of our students is as high as anywhere in the country. I am particularly gratified to witness the effective leaders they become in their organizations, their communities and their families when they leave our program and begin their careers."
