Arnold Ellis West, 71 died Thursday, June 18, 1998 in Golden Colorado of cancer.

He was born May 13, 1927 in Coalville, Utah to Ellis Fern and Della Arnold West. On October 22, 1948, he married Louise Moore West in Wanship, Utah. He was a BYU graduate in 1952, receiving his B.S. in Geology. Arnold was a member of the LDS Church, Golden Ward having held various callings and attending the Denver Temple regularly. He had a love for Hispanic people, extracting thousands of names for temple work. He loved to travel to Book of Mormon lands.He was a geologist with the Phillips Petroleum Co. from 1952 to 1985, working in the Rocky Mountains from Utah/Colorado to Alaska; he was an expert in oil exploration in overthrust belt, Rocky Mtn. Region. His favorite field partner was his sweetheart and wife, Candy.

Surviving are his wife, of Golden; two sons and a daughter: Randy Arnold West, Princeton, New Jersey; Laura Louise Northcott, Edmonton, Alberta; Jeffrey Albert West, Littleton, Colorado; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Orson Allen West, Green River, Wyoming; Karen Dykes, Kemmerer, Wyoming; David West, Tremonton, Utah.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 23, 1998 in Golden, Colorado.

Graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Wanship Utah Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 268 S. Main, Coalville, Utah Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
