A. Kavovit, 26, started looking for acting jobs when he was 12. He spent six years on "As the World Turns" as Paul Stenbeck/Ryan and won a Daytime Emmy for his efforts. The New York native did many TV guest roles before landing the part of J.D. on "The Magnificent Seven." CBS has rescinded the show's cancellation and now plans to bring it back at midseason.Q. One of my favorite TV shows was "CHiPs." What has become of Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada? I've been hearing a rumor of a "CHiPs" reunion. Any truth to that? - J.E., Beaverton, Ore.
A. The two are back on their motorcycles this summer as Officers Jon Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncherello filming a "CHiPs" reunion movie for TNT. Most of the old cast has reassembled for the cable flick, except for Michael Dorn (Officer Turner, 1980-82), who's busy on a new "Star Trek" movie. Look for "CHiPs '99" to air in October on TNT.
Q. Was Jan Smithers of "WKRP in Cincinnati" married to James Brolin? Is she the mother of Josh Brolin? Does James Brolin have any other children? - M.E.R., Farmers Branch, Texas
A. Smithers ("WKRP's" Bailey Quarters) was Brolin's second wife. They were married from 1986-95 and have a daughter. Josh is one of two sons from Brolin's first marriage. The elder Brolin, married for the third time to Barbra Streisand, has completed a CBS TV movie with Jane Seymour to air later this year. In addition, he returns for a second season of the syndicated military drama "Pensacola: Wings of Gold." Josh is filming the big-screen version of "The Mod Squad."
Q. There was a sitcom on for a short time with Elizabeth Pea as the nanny to a motherless family. I think the spacy teenage girl in the show was wonderfully portrayed by Helen Hunt, but the show is never mentioned in her bio. Was the now acclaimed Hunt the actress in that sitcom? - D.F., Cincinnati, Ohio
A. No. That was Juliette Lewis ("Natural Born Killers," "Cape Fear"), another acclaimed young actress who played the teenage daughter in the 1987 comedy "I Married Dora." Hunt has played her share of TV daughters, though, ("The Fitzpatricks," "It Takes Two" and "Amy Prentiss"). And she just received another Emmy nomination for her work on "Mad About You."
Q. I saw Isabella Rossellini (Ingrid Bergman's daughter) on "Chicago Hope" several months ago. I understand she is a twin. What profession is her sister in? Also, what became of Bergman's first daughter, Pia Lindstrom? - R.D., Winter Park, Fla.
A. Rossellini's twin sister, Ingrid, is a professor of Italian Renaissance literature. Their older half-sister, Pia Lindstrom, has dabbled in the entertainment business over the years. Rossellini - an actress, model and one-time reporter for an Italian news service - recently co-hosted the two-hour network special "The World Fashion Premiere" from Paris. She and Lindstrom team up for an hour-long "Intimate Portrait" of their mother, airing Aug. 4 on Lifetime.
Q. What happened to Charles Grodin? I'm wondering why he's not on the air anymore. - M.L., Pennsylvania
A. After 3 1/2 years, Grodin's CNBC talk show was yanked from the air in June. CNBC's official word was that the talk show didn't fit with CNBC's hard news format. But NBC's had second thoughts. "Charles Grodin" is back on the air, Saturdays on MSNBC.
Q. On the last show of "Nash Bridges," Nash's father died. At the end of the show there was an "in memory of" credit. I was wondering if the man who plays Nash's father had really died. - A.F., Virginia Beach, Va.
A. Actor James Gammon ("Major League," "The Apostle"), who plays Nick Bridges, is in good health but it's unclear whether he'll return to the series. In the show's season finale episode, Alzheimer patient Nick Bridges collapsed. The final scene at his hospital bed left us wondering whether he'll survive. His fate will be revealed this fall when "Nash Bridges" returns. The "in memory of" dedication at the end of the show was in honor of John Nicolella, who frequently directed and produced episodes of Don Johnson's other hit series, "Miami Vice."
