FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Colorado State on Monday was tapped to play Southern Mississippi in the Dec. 31 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

Representatives of the bowl scheduled a late-afternoon news conference at Colorado State to make the bowl invitation official.The Rams stumbled a bit early in the season, but turned themselves around to compile an 8-3 overall record, 5-2 in the Mountain West Conference. On Saturday, Colorado State wrapped up the season with a 35-17 victory over Nevada-Las Vegas.

Colorado State, Utah and Brigham Young were tied with 5-2 conference records. Each team won one and lost one against the other two. The Rams won out because they defeated Wyoming, while both BYU and Utah lost to Wyoming.
