Early on Saturday morning, November 27, 1999, Marques Reed Blodgett peacefully returned to Heavenly Father after a long and courageous fight against Osteogenic Sarcoma.

Since beginning his life here on May 2, 1983, Marques enjoyed the comfort and companionship of his family who love him beyond measure. As Marques always did, he spent his last few days caring for his family and friends by helping us say good-bye as he was about to return to his father, James Edwin Blodgett, and others who were anxiously awaiting him in heaven. His life was filled with experiences that made him an awesome young man. He loved to travel and explore God's world. He loved being physically active and challenging his mortal body with football, snowboarding, baseball, basketball, rock climbing, and motorcycling. As his disease impaired his ability to do the things he had always loved, he never complained. Instead, he adapted by mastering the game of golf. Only a week before Marques passed away, he was able to play golf with his brothers at three dream courses in California. We thank the Make-A-Wish Foundation for this wonderful opportunity.

On the days he was ill, he passed the time loving his family and entertaining his visitors with magic and card tricks. We loved his sense of humor and the strength that he gave to everyone who got to know him. His presence always lit up the room. We will never forget his beautiful smile and positive attitude. Our lives are all changed forever because we had the opportunity to love and be loved by him.

Marques had to leave behind his two sisters, Jaime and Wendy; his three brothers, Daniel, David, and Michael; his brother-in-law, Chris Stevenson; his nephew, Hunter Vranes; and his mother, Elizabeth. Grandparents Jack and JoAn Blodgett and Barbara Reiser Call, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with countless friends also mourn the loss of their friend and hero.

Marques was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Willow Creek Seventh Ward. His strong testimony of the plan of salvation and the love of his Heavenly Father made his battle against cancer easier to endure. Marques' mission to teach the gospel will be done in a place where there is much work to be done. We know he will continue to change the lives of many on the other side, just as he did here on earth.

We who love Marques feel a great appreciation for the wonderful doctors and nurses at Primary Children's Medical Center. Those who attended him were sensitive and gentle as they administered the care we had hoped would save his life. Marques constantly expressed his thanks to them and we are sure they will never forget him.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at 12 noon at the LDS Willow Creek Seventh Ward Chapel, 2215 E. Creek Road , Sandy, Utah. Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 So.), Tuesday evening from 6 to 10 p.m. or at the ward from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday prior to the services. Interment will be next to his father in the Holladay Cemetery.
